  2. WHAT IS CHANGE? • A break in the normal routine. • An alternative in our current life-style. • Unsettling the calm and peace previously established. • The process by which a system reshapes or reforms itself.

WHY PEOPLE RESIST CHANGE • Many of us have a natural aversion to change • Change is disorienting • Changes cause anxiety • Changes take back familiar cues that have been taken for granted • With an established routine, thinking is not vital.. Thinking is hard • Dwelling on what we will loose • Feeling alone • Fear changes will be too much • I don’t have what it takes.

HOW DO PEOPLE ACT WHO AVOID C HANGE? • Increased absenteeism • Decreased productivity • Regression • Resignation/Transfer • Sabotage • Get angry when confronted with the need for change • Are willing to do anything in order to avoid necessary changes in their lives • Associate only with people who support their beliefs and value systems which deny the need for change

  5. REASONS CHANGE FAIL • Poorly thought out • Too broad and ambitious. • Too fast for people to cope • Poorly resourced • Without long term commitment • Have key staff not included • Leader who are too controlling • Are pursued in isolation

  6. WHAT IS RESILIENCY? • Who made you resilient? • What made you resilient? • How can you become more resilient?

RESILIENCY Five characteristics of resiliency. • Be Positive - See life as challenging, dynamic, and filled with opportunities. • Be Focused - Determine where you are headed and stick to that goal so that barriers do not block your way • Be Flexible - Open yourself to different possibilities when faced with uncertainty. • Be Organized - Develop structured approaches to be able to manage the unknown. • Be Proactive - Look ahead, actively engage change, and work with it
