What is Transit Ridership? • Ridership data is based on trip counts • Average person takes 2 trips per day • Roughly 10%-30% transfer from one form of transit to another in order to get to their final destination • Transit modes include bus, trolley bus, vanpool, jitney, heavy/light rail transit, commuter rail, cable car, monorail and ferryboat
Promoting Ridership • Nearly 2.6 billion trips were taken in the first quarter of 2009 using public transportation 1 • Reduction of fossil fuels through alternative fueling • Over-congested highways are inevitable • Advertisement of mass transit
