  2. Objective • Students will learn the Big 6 research process and apply it to a sample problem. • Essential Question: What steps do you follow to complete a research paper?

  3. Step 1: Task Definition • What is my problem or topic? • How many parts does the assignment have? • What is required for each part of the assignment? • How will the assignment be graded? • Rewrite the assignment in your own words.

  4. Step 2: Information Seeking Strategies • Brainstorm a list of all possible sources. • Evaluate the different possible sources • Which ones are best for me to use? • Select the best sources

  5. Step 3 Location and Access • Locate sources • Find information within sources by using • The index of a book • Search box on a website • Evaluate sources for ACACO: Authority, Currency, Accuracy, Coverage, and Objectivity

  6. Step 4 Use of information • Read, hear, view, touch • Bookmark webpages • Take notes, make chart, use a tape recorder • Cite sources: Use Easy Bib (www.easybib.com)

  7. Step 5: Synthesis • Organize information from multiple resources • What product or performance will I make to finish my assignment? • Present the information • Write, paint, record, diagram • How will I credit sources in my final product? (Use parenthetical documentation and a Works Cited Page)

  8. Step 6: Evaluation • Was the information problem solved? • Did I do all parts of the task? • What would I do differently next time? • Judge the product • Am I pleased with my project?
