Physical Computing Final 2005 Steven Jackson Fazreen Zaianne Kuhiri
Observations & Issues • Ping Pong is played all over the room • Computer has to be configured to set up paddles • A sound box is needed for each paddle • Hard to change sounds
Solution: Wireless Because Ping Pong is sometimes played all over the room. The wires need to go! Everywhere 1 Everywhere 2
Solution: Wireless Wire Problem: To make the paddles wireless I’ll be using High Speed Low-Cost Transceivers - 2.4GHz with Built-In Antenna
Solution: New Sound Box Configuration Problem: The current sound box uses a serial connection meaning that on a Mac the serial dongle has to be configured and can be inconsistent. So the new box will connect to the computer via USB using a Ardriuno board or possibly Bluetooth
Solution: New Sound Box Two Many Computer Problem: Right now in order to play ping with another opponent requires the use of 2 computers. Which most people do not have. So the new sound box will read both paddles from one PIC chip, wirelessly of course.
Solution: New Sound Box Changing Sounds Problem: In order to switch sounds you have to go into Processing and manually change the sound file name. The new sound box will have a selection of buttons on top to choose different sounds. If time permits I would like to add a microphone for users to add custom sounds on the real time.
Ping Pong To Do • Order wireless chips • Build new paddles that will incorporate a slot for the wireless chips • Build new Sound Box • Add real time recording to Sound Box • Add Bluetooth connection to box • Make the software a executable program (That way Processing would not be required)
