Lockdown Procedure The term LOCKDOWN means securing a school due to a MAJOR incident or threat of VIOLENCE within the school, or in relation to the school.
The signal for a lockdown is a special bell followed by an announcement. • Move to a safe area. • Be silent • Get out of sight • Follow teacher’s directions • Do not enter or stay in the HALL/STAIRWELLS • STAY in your safe area until the “all clear” is given • Cell phones must be SHUT OFF. DO NOT USE either VOICE or TEXT MESSAGING services on cell phones during lockdown.
During a lockdown… all lights will be shut off. • If you’re in the Drama room – hide behind the curtains and BE STILL & QUIET. • If you’re in the library, move to the rear computer lab. • If you’re in the halls/washrooms – move to the closest classroom and give the teacher your name. • If you’re in the cafeteria, move to the servery, seminar room 1-2 or front of the stage (behind curtains.)
If you hear the FIRE ALARM bell… • Leave your things and exit immediately outside (closest exit.) • Stand with your class – DO NOT LEAVE or GO TO FIND FRIENDS in other classes as the teacher needs to take attendance. • If you were in the washroom and exit – find Mrs. Foran and let her know you are safely out. • Any questions? Please ask your teacher.
