  3. Student Support Mr Darby – Assistant Head for Key Stage 5 Mrs Murray – Assistant Director of Standards in Sixth Form Mrs Brailsford – Sixth Form Administrator 9-2pm Daily

  4. Personal Tutor All students have been allocated a Year 13 Personal Tutor to discuss their options for next year These tutors will meet with their students to help them with university applications and other advice and guidance A member of the school leadership team Mr Parker, Mrs Chivers, Mrs Guest, Mr Payne, Miss Beeton, Ms Martin

  5. Personal Tutor Groups Campbell – Mrs Owens, Mrs Riley-Gough Dylan – Mrs Walshe, Mrs Rolleston Grey Thompson – Mrs Malster, Mr Young King – Mrs Foster and Mrs Richards McCartney – Miss Phagura and Mrs Lister Picasso – Ms Black, Mrs Wood

  6. Assessment Weeks and Reporting 6th October – Reports home 24th November 26th January Mock Examinations – Reports home 23rd February – Mock exam resits 23rd March – Reports home

  7. Parent Consultation 11/02/14 – 4.30pm-7.30pm Queensbury – 13/11/14 On 11th February all students will receive their mock results

  8. Student Timetables 24-44 lessons per fortnight 16-36 study lessons Study lessons are not free periods Library open daily until 4.30pm GCSE Maths and English – All with a grade D or below should have lessons to attend

  9. Queensbury Buses To Queensbury 8:45 and 9am 11.10 and 11.20 1.30, 1.40 and 1.50 3.15 and 3.30 These buses then return to school

  10. What happens if… Students arrive late for lessons… Student attendance falls… Students do not complete the work… A student is absent…

  11. Summer Examinations First exam will be around mid May Study leave will begin at May half term BTEC students may need to continue lessons after May half term

  12. UCAS Applications All students should have registered with UCAS if they wish to apply for university Personal Statement 4000 characters or 47 lines of text Subject References Personal Tutor Reference

  13. Choosing the right university Open days Prospectuses University ratings Location Courses and Entry Requirements Points or Grades

  14. UCAS Points 140=A* or Distinction* 120=A or Distinction 100=B 80=C or Merit 60=D 40=E Look at the individual entry requirements in prospectus and/or ring universities

  15. Application Process Sell yourself in your personal statement 5 choices Universities will make offers/rejections Make a final choice of 2 First Choice Second Choice

  17. Clearing If students do not get the right grades in the summer then they there will be space on courses available on results day A lottery

Timeline Entered your Personal details   Entered your A’ level /AS Level subject with specific units taken (available on your exam slips or exams office)   Put together your Personal Statement (first draft) Shown this draft to your Personal Tutor Edited your first drafted Personal Statement (keeping to the word count – you can enter up to 4,000 characters (this includes spaces) or 47 lines of text (this includes blank lines) Shown this Personal Statement to your Personal Tutor Typed up your Personal Statement onto your UCAS Application Form Printed out your completed (UNSENT) application Form and handed it in to your Sixth Form Personal Tutor for a Tutor Reference to be written and initial checking Once approved by your Personal Tutor bring the hard copy to the exams/sixth form office for processing and further checking

  21. A Tuition Fee loan This will pay for your tuition fees, at your university for your course Every student can borrow this regardless of their parents income or the type of course It will only cover this, there will be no surplus! You only start paying this back when you leave University

  22. A Maintenance Loan Living at home Up to £4,565 Living away from home, outside London Up to £5,740 Living away from home, in London Up to £8009 You spend a year of a UK course studying abroad Up to £6,820

  23. A Maintenance Grant This is non-repayable!!! English students whose family household income of up to £25,000 are entitled to £3,387 The Grant part of your loan is not paid on top of the maintenance loan It represents that part that doesn’t have to be repaid to the government

  24. A Maintenance Grant £25,000 or less = £3,387 £30,000 =£2,441 £35,000 =£1,494 £40,000 =£547 £42,611 =Up to £50 Over £42,611 =No grant

  25. Bursaries and Scholarships This is another form of non-repayable cash support. Bursaries are given by the University you attend and are linked to your family income. Scholarships are usually given to students because of achievement and excellence. Check what is available by going to Course Finder at www.ucas.com

  27. Independent Advice and Guidance 4YP Independent careers advice at school on day per week Students can book via the Sixth Form Team

  28. Parent Support Keep us informed of all issues that affect students learning and progress Ensure students do work outside the lessons, attend well and work as hard as they can We will endeavour to keep in contact with you when things go well… And not so well.
