  1. Who is eligible for a motability car? A motability car is a vehicle issued to a person suffering from a disability to enable them to move around with ease and less inconvenience. Along with disabled parking, they ensure that disabled people suffer as little inconvenience as possible in the process of traveling by road. One of the common questions associated with motablility cars is one’s eligibility. Who exactly is eligible for one and how does a person know if they are or not? Those who are eligible for a motability car are as follows: 1. Those who are recipients of the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Assistance (HRMC DLA): This is an allowance that is provided by the Department of Work and Pensions for the disabled. This allowance is currently GBP 59.75 per week and can be used to pay for a mobility scheme. If you are currently a recipient of this scheme, you should be eligible for a motability car. 2. Recipients of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP): The DLA is slowly being replaced by this scheme and it is available to individuals between the ages of 16 and 64. However, this payment is a bit more complex than the DLA. It is made up of two parts which are the daily living component and the mobility component. The components also have both a standard rate of payment and an enhanced rate. The enhanced rate is equal to what you would have received from the DLA. With this enhanced rate, you will be able to lease a motability vehicle of your choice from a dealer like the Sandown Group. If you are currently a recipient of the DLA, you will likely receive an invitation from the DWP before 2019. Once received, it is necessary to respond to the invitation so as to claim your benefits.

  2. 3. Recipients of the War Prisoners’ Mobility Supplement: This scheme provides monetary support to war veterans who were injured in the line of duty. The purpose of this scheme is to help them cover whatever extra expenses they would have incurred as a result of their injuries sustained while in service. This scheme applies to single lower limb amputees who also have at least a 40 percent War Disablement Pension who automatically benefit from the scheme. Recipients are also eligible for motability vehicles. The payment received is currently GBP64.15 per week. 4. Recipients of the Armed Forces Independence Payment: The AFIP is a payment that is granted to war veterans who were injured in the line of duty on or after the 6th of April 2005 and also veterans who are given a Guaranteed Income Payment (GIP) of 50% or more. The tax-free payment is currently GBP 139.75 per week and recipients are eligible for motability vehicles from a Motability car dealer. Conclusion The first step in getting a motability vehicle is being sure that you are eligible for one. If you belong to any of the aforementioned groups, then you are eligible to apply for and receive a motabilty vehicle. Visit https://www.sandown-group.co.uk/motability/
