Calhoun County School/Daycare Policy • Anti-vaccination movements threaten the health of Michigan children and school staff • Vaccines are safe, effective, and prevent disease spread • According to CDC, Michigan ranks 4th worst in the nation in vaccine waivers • The Michigan Public Health Code gives the Local Health Department the authority to take action in preventing the transmission of serious communicable diseases • Child may attend school until symptoms of illness or exposure to a disease. Child will be then excluded until: • Child is confirmed by physician to be free from communicable disease • Child recovers from disease and is no longer infectious • Child is appropriately treated for the disease and is no longer infectious • Exposed child is vaccinated or treated prophylactically • Exposed child shows no signs of disease for period of communicability

  6. Preparation is key! • Immunization waivers are completed by PHN • Educational material provided to parents • Emphasis on the exclusion process and period • Options for school re-entry

A Written County Policy POLICY STATEMENT: Upon notification of a suspected or confirmed serious communicable disease in the school or daycare setting, all identified individuals showing signs of illness, or those exposed to the ill person(s) and who have not been immunized will be excluded pursuant to this policy and Department Rule 325.175 by order of the CCPHD, from the school or daycare setting, as set forth in the following procedure, until it is determined that there is no risk of disease transmission.
