  10. Order of Operations Rules for evaluating an expression. Ex. Work first within ( ), calculate all powers from left to right, then do multiplications or divisions from left to right, then do addition and subtraction from left to right.

  11. Distributive Property Multiplication is distributive over addition and subtraction. Ex. a(b+c)=ab+ac a(b-c)=ab-ac

  12. Commutative Property A property of addition or multiplication, where the sum or product stays the same when the order of the addends or factors is changed. a + b = b + a and ab=ba

  13. Identity Property Addition – Adding 0 to a number leaves the number unchanged, or identical (2+0=2) O is the identity element for addition. Multiplication- Product of any number and 1 is that number 4X1=4. 1 is the identity element for multiplication.

  14. Associative Property A property of addition or multiplication, where regrouping the addends or factors does not change the outcome of the operations. (a+b)+c=a+(b+c)

  20. Gecko Program Representatives of Penn State New Kensington visited Vandergrift Elementary for classroom presentations.  GECKO is a STEM focused environmental presentation with ties to science and engineering.
