  1. Producing PCB Layouts

  2. Suggestions: • Our class found that Yanka was Idea for creating PCB Board Layouts. • Yanka allows a user to print off a bill of materials. (It includes English Pricing)

  3. Open Yanka, use PCB with Electronics

  4. Design a Circuit!

  5. Copy and Past into Rectangular PCB Space

  6. Click on the second icon on the top right!

  7. Print the Bill of MaterialsMake changes (such as 386 for 555)

  8. Click on the First icon on the top right!

  9. Select Quick, To automatically create tracks

  10. Select View

  11. Select Display Artwork Print on transparency!

  12. Explore Views like-> Real View

  13. Materials • PCB boards • Yanka • Acetone • Magazine paper/ Laser Printer Transparencies • Laser Printer • Iron/ Press

  14. Safety Instructions • Solutions used in etching are Corrosive • Everyone must wear gloves and goggles when working with such chemicals • We will not be using in this class • Is not recommended for use at home

  15. What to Etch? • Need to design a circuit schematic • Wires will be the copper that is not etched http://www.tattoodonkey.com/pics/c/i/circuit-board-drawing--i-b-tattoodonkey.com.jpg(Accessed October 12, 2011.)

  16. Patterning PCB Boards STEP 1:Print schematic on magazine paper with a laser printer (Suggestion) Print on Laser printable Transparency STEP 2: Clean PCB board with a wire mesh pad and rinse with water

  17. Patterning PCB Boards STEP 3: Iron the board 1 min and then on the design onto the PCB board for ~1 minute (Suggestion) Iron for up to five minutes Or press for a minute or two

  18. Patterning PCB Boards STEP 4: Place the PCB into water and gently remove the magazine paper (Suggestion) Print on Laser printable Transparency using water to take off magazine paper is not needed. The print is transferred directly to the PCB Board.

  19. Etching PCB Boards STEP 5: Use a black permanent marker to lay out any tracks that need protection STEP 6: Send to a lab and have the boards chemically etched.

  20. Why Chemically Etch the Copper? • Able to form electrical connections between circuit components • No external wires • Continuous connections http://www.kollewin.com/blog/printed-circuit-board-manufacturing/(Accessed October 12, 2011.)

  21. Copper Cu • Very high thermal properties • Great electrical conductivity • Great properties for charge carrier material in PCB!! http://www.billows.com/IndustryNews/CopperMarketTrend.aspx (Accessed October 12, 2011.)
