Purpose Fill in any gaps on the nitrogen cycles and acidification, along with some possible solutions that can be implemented to stop further acidification of our water systems as well as nitrogen overloading.
Introduction • Misconceptions • Nitrogen emissions is not as problematic as sulfur emissions • Nitrogen is easily broken down and recycled • Statistics • Nitrogen is equally responsible as sulfur for damaging atmospheric emissions • Aquatic species are not capable of survival in high nitrogen concentrations

Conclusion • Water systems are crucial in the diversity of species and are endangered or threatened due to nitrogen overloading and acidification • Nitric acid is one of the primary factors for acidification of our water ways • Nitrogen cycle is overworked and requires effort towards limiting the amount of nitrogen overloading • Education and more research is required on the topic of nitrogen overloading to eliminate misconceptions of the nitrogen cycle and our water systems
