How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?
Genre – Action/Thriller In my short film I wanted to keep the colours in the film dark or over exposed to show an effect that creates atmosphere, once the ending of the film comes up the effect on the imagery changes, this allows a different atmosphere to kick in and also allows the audience to notice that it feels like you are now watching it from the main characters point of view.
Poster/Review The poster and review were inspired by Empire and how they layered out Batman The Dark Knight Rises. I thought both films were in the same genre therefor, I thought it would be good to adapt my poster and review around these ideashowever I must take into consideration that Batman is well known and the batman logo is well known therefor people could just see the logo and automatically understand what is advertising, so my poster could not be exactly the same and had to make it stand out to capture the audiences mind with however the genre of Batman. With my poster I have placed the main character and the “bad guy” together when they both laugh, according to my short film analysis , they need a catalyst which I planned to be the laugh so for the poster this is a great time to show this. This may allow the audience to see this easier and create a link between the characters. Both images on the poster are from the film which are screen shots, which are then edited further in Adobe Photoshop to create one image. This is the same with the review which is a screen shot from the film to allow people to see what they could be expecting to watch.
Text The text I used was similar to Punk’ds this was because I wanted it to remind people constantly that this is a prank, this also creates the effect of it being gritty and on the street as the font is broken up into small pieces. The colour is either black or red which are both dark colours this links in with the gender that it is action and represents these colours as dark emotion and something is about to happen. On my poster I wanted the text to stand out to emphasis the film, thus Ichanged the font to a more suitable font which makes it more eye catching. I placed the font near the center of the screen as the poster is plain other than the picture so with the big title this attracts viewers.
Conclusion I believe that my overall product has worked well with my genre I have chosen and that the poster and review matches up well. The font stands out however is plain. The image on the poster represents the film and what triggers the incidents which is the laugh. The ancillary texts also look professional as I have compared to many new genre related films and have done research on this. Last the ancillary do match up with the film itself and allows a strong connection, but also could be associated with the magazine I designed by poster and review around, Empire.
