Huawei Supports CERN in the Discovery of Higgs Particle Challenge • 25 PB data growth per year • Must be extremely reliable, cross-region data protection • Too high operating expense (OPEX) Solution “CERN is hitting the technology limits for resource-intensive simulations and analysis. Our collaboration with Huawei shows an exciting new approach, where their novel architecture extends the capabilities in preparation for the Exascale data rates and volumes we expect in the future.” • Huawei UDS' EB-level storage capacity • Multiple data copies technologies Benefits • Meet the following 40 years requirements • High reliability, no data loss • Reduce OPEX by 45% Mr.Bob Jones, head of CERN OpenLAB
Huawei Storage Assists IMG Media Asset Management • International Medical Group (IMG) is the best worldwide sports and media company with more than 3000 staffs. Its clients, such as Sky-Sports, ESPN, and BBC cover more than 30 countries. Challenge • Complex network with multiple devices • Difficult to expand with same high performance • Online storage and NearStore are isolated Solution • Huawei media asset storage solution • High density E6000 blade cluster • N8000 NAS system with high-performance and large capacity fornearline “What has really impressed us has been the quality of the technology, combined with the creative approach of the Huawei engineers. We spoke to other suppliers, who told us that what we wanted couldn’t be done. Huawei didn’t seem to hit the same walls as others – they worked hard to understand the broadcast arena and find a solution which delivered on our needs.” Benefits • The network simplified, 50% servers number and 60% space saved • Online and NearStore in one system- expansion cost saved • High performance and cost effectiveness Mr. Shane Warden, General Manager at IMG Media House
SCC Birmingham Headquarters - Data Center • Background • Specialist Computer Centers (SCC) is Europe's largest independent IT group, and provides services for large-scale enterprises, governments, and public organizations covering Britain and most European countries. In 2011, the revenue reached £ 2.7 billion. • SCC Birmingham headquarters data center crosses two areas and uses Cisco C6500s. As services develop rapidly, existing devices cannot meet data center requirements. • Network upgrade requirements : larger switching capability and TRILL features. • Solution • The project uses 2 CE12800s, 6 CE6800s, 35 CE5800s, and 24 S5700s. • The networks of two office areas use CE12800 as core devices. The two data centers use CE6800 to perform stacking for 10GE server access. Core and access devices are connected by 40GE. • Two data centers and office areas use CE6800s running TRILL to provide a large-scale Layer 2 network. • Benefits • High-speed switching: Data centers use 40GE interconnection, greatly improving service efficiency. • Large Layer 2 loop free network: The link use efficiency is doubled, meeting requirements for service virtualization and wide service migration.
