Our Goal for You is GRADUATION! There are two academicdiploma pathways that will achieve this goal: 1. Michigan Merit Curriculum 2. IB Diploma Pathway
Diploma Plans • Choose classes that will meet the requirements for a high school diploma (Michigan Merit or IB Diploma.) • Choose classes that will prepare you for the demanding college curriculum. (English, Math, Social Studies, Science and World Language) • Choose classes that allow you to explore a desired career or major.
Michigan Merit Curriculum Pathway(Classes you have to pass to earn a diploma) 26 credits required for graduation (8 electives) 18 core required credits: • English Language Arts 4 credits • Mathematics Core3 credits Algebra I 1 credit Geometry 1 credit Algebra II 1 credit • Mathematics Related Course in the Senior Year 1 credit • Science 3 credits Chemistry 1 or Chemistry I Honors 0.5 credit Physics 1 or Physics 1 Honors 0.5 credit Biology 1 or Biology I Honors 0.5 credit Earth Science 1 or Earth Science I Honors 0.5 credit Advanced Chemistry or Physics Option 0.5 credit Advanced Biology Option 0.5 credit • Social Studies 3 credits Modern American History or Honors Modern American History 1 credit World History Elective 1 credit U.S. Government/Economics 1 credit • Physical Education1.5 credits • Fine or Applied Arts 1 credit • Health 0.5 credit • On-line and/or Technology Integration Experience1 credit (Embedded in other courses or in a stand alone course.)
IB Diploma Pathway • You should have already designated your IB Diploma plan last year. Now, you are in classes to fulfill the IB Diploma. • Talk to your parent(s), counselor, and IB Coordinator, Mr. Chuck Schira, about your senior year schedule.
Some Advice about Grades in High School • When you fail a required class after taking the final exam, you may have to repeat it. • Grades and GPA may affect college admission. • At PCHS, you will find yourself in the same class again, if you fail a required class. • In the meantime, be sure to participate in class. • Do your homework. • Review for tests. • Talk to your parent(s,) teachers and/or counselors when you need help.
Career Pathways • All careers fall into one of the six pathways assigned by the state of Michigan. • There are many factors that affect picking a pathway. • Today we will introduce a few ideas about Career Pathways.

What is an EDP? • EDP stands for Educational DevelopmentPlan • Four year plan for high school in order to prepare you for life after high school. • Your EDP will be used as a reference when scheduling your classes each year. • An EDP is a working document which means it can change according to your life goals. • Part of your EDP includes picking a Career Pathway to help guide your course choices. • Your EDP has several components. Today, we will focus on the academic and career components of the past three years and finally your senior year.

Creating Your EDP Today Step one:Fill in all required course work. Step two: Decide which career pathway best suits your personal interests, needs, or life choices at the present time. This may change as your interests change. Step three:Choose electives to fill your schedule that relate to your chosen career pathway. Step four:Meet with your counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
Wrapping Things Up… The final steps in this process are very important! Pay attention!! 1. Your EDP is your ticket out the door. 2. If you were unable to complete your EDP, please make an appointment with your counselor in the Counseling Office. 3. A copy of your EDP will be mailed home to your parent/guardian. 4. Your EDP will be kept on file in the Counseling Office.
