Member Retention & Effective General Meetings Presented by Randall Harper & Jessica Eto
Before we start… IT’S ICEBREAKER TIME!
Let’s talk tabling • Every club is trying to recruit the same people! • Tablingessentials • Officer contact info • Meeting time and place • Sign up sheets • Flyers • Other important (but optional) • Meeting agenda • Slideshow, scrapbook, pictures • Games/interactive activity • Food
Okay, someone stopped… …now what?
Talk the Talk • Be proactive and outgoing • Be adaptable • Identify what he/she wants in a club • Know when to pursue or back off • Be concise: “The Elevator Pitch” • 30 seconds – one minute speech • How is it effective? • Ask questions!
Things to AVOID! • Talking about dues • Unless he/she asks, then explain them well. • Cheering • Totally awesome and fun.. • …BUT intimidates new people • Cliquey-ness • Doing NOTHING!
It’s meeting time! • Engaging meetings • Consistency • MORE than an agenda • Be interactive • Talk to and sit with potential members • Ask questions! • Icebreakers • How much does a polar bear weigh? • Appropriate icebreakers! • Event planning • Multiple events • Combined events
How do we get them to stay? • Recognition • Membership Recognition Program • Member of the Week/Month • Can be chosen based on event attendance, officer vote, etc • Let the club mascot party with the MoW for a week! • Perhaps a free dinner for the MoM? • Recognize birthdays, “Thank you!”, “Good job!”, etc • INTERCLUBS! • Raffles and prizes
Family or Big/Little system • Promotes bonding through social activities as well as by giving veteran members an opportunity to mentor new members. • Divides club into smaller, m0re manageable groups that are run by two leaders (aka parents) • Can also be used to create fun competitions in the club • The difference between them is size; however, they can be combined to create even more opportunities for mentorship
Teach ‘em a thing or two! • Educational workshops • Circle K can be confusing • HOWEVER, they don’t have to be CKI-related! • Participation opportunities • Chair projects • Speaking during meetings • The power of DCMs and District events!
Group session • Group A: how to get a member who feels like he/she isn’t being recognized enoughto stay in CKI • Group B: how to approach a potential recruit during tabling • Group C: how to treat and approach members during general meetings • Group D: how to encourage a member to be more active in the club
Q&A and survey • Ask away Don’t forget to fill out the survey! :D Contact Us! Randall Harper - harper.randall@gmail.com Jessica Eto – ucsdcki.jessica@gmail.com
