Intrinsic motivation…the doing of an activity for its inherent satisfaction Just for the fun of it…
Intrinsic motivators include… fascination with a subject, a sense of relevance to life & the world, a sense of accomplishment in mastering it, and a sense of a calling to it.
Extrinsic motivation is when a person is motivated by outside factors.
Extrinsicmotivators include… parental expectations, expectations of other trusted role models, good grades… For young children…
Intrinsic motivation can be long lasting and self-sustaining however … slow to affect behaviour and time consuming
Extrinsic motivators more readily produce behaviour changes and typically involve relatively little effort or preparation.
However … Extrinsicmotivators can often distract students from learning the subject at hand.
Motivationis the engine that drives learning.
