Strategies for Improvement Examine the consistency and flexibility of course offerings to ensure students can graduate in a timely fashion. Increase support for academic services such as the tutoring centers, learning centers, math labs, writing labs, Supplemental Instruction, etc. Strengthen partnerships with high schools to ensure students are prepared to meet higher academic standards.
Strategies for Improvement (CONTINUED) • Increase participation in academic intervention activities such as early alert. • Notify students if they are in academic difficulty no later than the 8 week of classes. • Contact students who have completed 15 units and still have an undeclared major to make appointments with counselors

Strategies for Improvement A Career Education counselor has been hired through categorical funds (Perkins) to assist in referring students for academic support. Continue informing High School personnel about academic requirements necessary for students entering Career Education programs. Career Education Counselor will work closely within the Counseling Department in providing information about Career Programs to better support student placement.

Strategies for Improvement Hired (07-08) New full time ESL instructor Developing curricular frameworks that define what should be taught, and how it should be taught, to students with different needs Increased professional development for ESL instructors Establishing ESL lab at SJC LRC Continue to recruit English language learners throughout the district and educate them about the opportunities at MSJC.
