  4. Provide examples • Absolute: Latitude, longitude, an address, etc. • Relative: Next to… • Can Geography be measured by both distance and time? • Try each by distance, then by time. • Absolute vs. Relative Location • Distance by miles and time • Sel. To Harrisburg, Philly, NYC, and Wash. DC

  5. People settle by water. • People wear clothes and build housing. • People build roads, dams, bridges… • How do people: • Depend on the environment? • Adapt to the environment? • Modify the environment? • How to people modify the environment in this region?

Historically geography had a very large impact on travel and communication, but not as much today. • Look at Google Earth and find features that would have affected civilizations in these areas. • How does geography affect travel and communication? • Apply this concept to the Middle East, Europe, and East Asia.

  7. How does Geography affect us? • Provide examples of relative and absolute location. • How do people: • Depend on the environment? • Adapt to the environment? • Modify the environment? • How to people modify the environment in this region? • How does geography affect travel and communication?
