Introduction • Brief review of literature describing RH needs included as background to comprehensive review of: • Evaluation/assessment reports related to RH services for refugees and IDPs (11 countries) • Evaluation/assessment reports of health services/programs, as a whole, for refugees (4 countries) • Other documents relevant to RH services for refugees and IDPs

  3. Components of RH Services Assessed/Evaluated • Family planning • Safe motherhood • STD/HIV/AIDS • Sexual and gender violence • MISP/RH Kits But not all assessments/evaluations covered all of these components

Main Findings • Variations and/or gaps in family planning services relevant to: • availability of methods; abilities and skills of service providers; use of services • Good range of SM services at most refugee sites: • Services generally well used; better indicators and outcomes for mothers and newborns • Limited range of SM services for IDPs

Main Findings (cont’d) • Variations and/or gaps in STD/HIV/AIDS services relevant to: • availability of drugs; skills of service providers; partner notification and treatment; condom distribution; supplies for universal precautions • Services for SGV often not available, and where they are available: • lack well defined protocols, practices, procedures • tendency to focus on victims of rape • BUT efforts are being made to establish clear systems, roles, responsibilities for SGV services

  6. Conclusions • Fairly favorable impression of RH services for refugees: • some aspects stronger than others • need for improvement • Much less favorable impression of RH services for IDPs: • all components of RH services severely lacking • urgent action required if the RH needs of IDPs are to be met
