Magnificent 7 News • Summer School will be scheduled as usual with Tuition courses being offered. • Mt. Sac not offering classes to 9th graders • Breaking ground for the pool May/June. Should be finished by Fall 2012 • Dean Conklin committed to no lay-offs for next year. No pink slips went out to anyone • We lost the lawsuit to Rowland • Big push to reach International Students
Magnificent 7 news continued • School wide fundraiser by Foundation has only raised $3000 compared to $23,000 last year. You can use Pay pal. They will be sending letters • PINC is changing their name so they can reach more dads. SAPA • 15th Annual Teddy Bear Tea at Royal Vista Golf Club, April 30, 10am – 2pm Tickets $39 or table for $300. All proceeds used to fund Teachers Mini-Grant requests. Please respond by April 12. After this day $49. Coordinating Council Notes • Coordinating Council presenting “Creating Powerful Parenting Teams” – workshop on Parlimentary procedures, April 27 at 9:30 am Contact Debbie Dobson @ dobsonmom@verizon.net to sign up • I will be attending this. Please sign up and come join me
February Attendance • We had 19 adults attend our meeting • We had 9 kids attend our “HOPE Homework Club” • Total attendance for our January meeting: 28 people
SAT Boot Camp • We had 14 kids come to our Boot Camp • Thank you to Karen & Jaime Rodriguez and Chris Hernandez for attending • We have tentative dates for another Boot camp in Sept.
8th Grade Parent Night • Wed, March 23, 2011 at 7:00 pm • If you are available and would like to come greet parents and welcome them, please come. • All of the parent groups will be present • Karen and I will be working the table
HOPE Group at Walnut El • They are starting a HOPE Parent group • 2nd Parent HOPE group that has been launched this year • I have been invited to speak about our group and what we have been doing here at DBHS • Thurs, March 17 at 5:30pm • Come join me! They are serving dinner at 5:30
Cal State Fullerton Day • Saturday, April 16, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm • Variety of workshops for parents and students and campus tours • We have 25 spots. Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project • Open to current 10th & 11th students • July 23-30, 2011 Cal State Sacramento • No GPA requirement or cut-off • Students selected to participate attend at no cost to themselves or their families • Strongly encourage students with leadership potential to apply • Deadline to apply is April 15, 2011 • www.clylp.org.
