Increased Support for Australian Apprentices Trade apprentices working in skill shortage occupations will receive additional tax exempt bonuses of up to $1700 from 1 January 2011. This additional bonus brings to $5500 the total tax free Tools for Your Trade Payment provided to trade apprentices in skills shortage occupations. New Patissier (Pastry Chef) Apprenticeship A new Patissier (Pastry Chef) Apprenticeship was established in 2010, linked to the qualification Certificate III in Hospitality (Patisserie). Patissiersare a critical skill shortage in Western Australia so apprenticeship and job opportunities are excellent in this highly creative occupation.
New Hospitality Pre-Apprenticeship A new Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) Pre-Apprenticeship was established in 2010 and is linked to a Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations). Qualification leads to further training and apprenticeships in Certificate III in Hospitality: Commercial Cookery; Pattisserie; Asian Cookery; or Catering Operations. Cooks and Chefs are a critical skill shortage in Western Australia so apprenticeship and job opportunities are excellent in this diverse profession.
Hospitality School-based Traineeships FutureNowhas recently submitted a proposal to the State Training Board regarding a variation to the Nominal Term of School-based Traineeships linked to a Certificate II in Hospitality or Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations). The variation proposed is a change from 14 months (part time) to 18 months (part time) to allow students more time to complete the qualification and increase industry access to trainees/employees in this skill shortage area. Results of this proposal due @ mid April 2011.
VET Policy Changes for Student School-based Traineeship Progressions School-based traineeship progression to higher level traineeships require Special Approval from Training Councils if the traineeship is not already endorsed as eligible for school-based traineeships on the WA Apprenticeships and WA Traineeships Lists. http://www.trainingwa.wa.gov.au/apprenticentre/ccm/portal/
