A National Pursuit in Taiwan Major Undertaking at a National Level Encouraged by successful experience in facilitating semiconductor and IT industries from the past, governments adopts pro-technology policies regardless of governing parties Leveraged off existing global presence in ICT technologies, the vehicle-electronics sector is deemed a must-pursue field for future growths Multi-Year Initiatives Major directions recommended by Science and Technology Advisory Group (National Council) Policies and initiatives executed by Executive Yuan (executive branch) Private sectors involved at high levels

    3. Public-Private Partnerships Strategic plans defined and budgets allocated by Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), particularly Department of Industrial Technologies (DoIT) National projects distributed to quasi-government research institutions Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) Institute for Information Industry (III) Automotive Research and Testing Center (ARTC) Industrial collaborations strongly desired and typically required at every step of the process Industrial alliance or consortium formed as necessary

Related National Initiatives Next Generation Telematics Program Exploratory Phase (1-year) in 2008; followed by 4-year second phase 2009-2012 Telematics Promotion Office (TPO) formed in 2009 Taiwan Telematics Industrial Alliance (TTIA) formed in 2009 Aggressive positioning in China, propelled by pro-China policy and recent favored-nation trade agreements Smart bus computing platform demonstrated in FuZhou in June ITRI participation in CAMP V2V DSRC project in July 2010 Intelligent Electric Vehicles Program initiated in 2010 IEV Promotion Office established in September 2010
