The Structure ... • What is the key event in the passage? – why position it here? • What emotional effect does the author want the extract to have on the reader – how does the structure work to achieve this? • How would you describe the Form, Language, Setting up to and after this event? • Which little paragraphs / sentences / words bear the greatest weight? • Patterns – in language, form, imagery, voice, setting ... are there any?
