Purpose of the Static Standardized Work • Standardized Work Document-Procedures for Static (non-moving) Line Production Processes • Efficiency tool used to identify station layout and walk path for a static station. • Highlights areas for improvement in a process by identifying reverse walking and inefficient process flow conditions. • A basis for process planning, layout and review. • A tool to capture the current condition and / or to display an improved condition
Using the Static Standardized Work Document for CI USING THE STATIC SMP to identify areas for Continuous Improvement
Static Standardized Work - Before CI Before CI: - Reverse Walks - Return Walks to parts bins - No WIP standards - No small parts bins - Poor process flow and walk patterns
Static Standardized Work - After CI After CI: - Return trips eliminated - Small parts bins added at point of use - Reverse Walking eliminated - WIP standards set where necessary - Improvement part placement efficiency - Improved Process Flow - Improved Walk Pattern
Administration and Completion of the Static Standardized Work Document
Completing the Static Standardized Work Document Record Process Information in the box provided.
Completing the Static Standardized Work Document Record Information
Administering the Standardized Work Document Step No. = Number the Major Steps in the column provided Ref No. = Insert important reference documentation No. corresponding to major step in the Information Block at the bottom of the document in the column provided Symbol = Insert any key symbol from the "Key Symbols" legend that applies to the Major Steps in the column provided. Major Steps = Break out the process into major steps and insert the step numbers in the column provided Model/Option = Insert the model or option variants related to the Major Steps in the column provided Value Added Time = Record Value Added Time in the column provided Non-Value Added Time = Record Non-Value Added Time in the Column provided Walk = Record Walk Time in the column provided. DO NOT GIVE WALK A STEP NO. Cum. = Insert the Cummulative Time in the Column Provided. Total Time = Sum all columns and insert totals in the spaces provided.
1. Value-Added Work 2. Non Value-Added Work Definitions for Reference Classification Explanation Examples -assembling - clipping - fastening - screwing - gluing - welding - painting - sealing Value-added work refers to changes to the product that directly increase the value of the product, and for which the customer is willing to pay for. Value-added work involves attaching/applying a part to a part/vehicle and is generally performed AT the vehicle. - picking-up parts - walking - changing of tools - quality checking - stamping of sheets - scanning - refilling of parts in container - transportation of material - opening & removing of wraps - removing of garbage - observing - rework - repair Non value-added work does not increase the value of the product for the customer, and is typically not performed at the vehicle. These activities can be decreased and/or eliminated.
Completing the Static Standardized Work Document • Complete the Visual Diagram: • Begin the diagram by drawing the stations, flow racks and parts as they are positioned in the station
Completing the Static Standardized Work Document • Draw in the Walk Pattern: • Major Steps should be indicated with a circled number • ALL walking should be indicated with a solid arrow
Static Standardized Work Key Points • SMPs require signatures to Validate the accuracy of the information contained on the SMP • - Team Leaders (A/B Shifts) • - Group Leaders (A/B Shifts)- Engineer • - Assistant Manager • - Manager • Symbols: • - Quality Check symbols should be used according to supervisor discretion. • - <S> symbols for significant characteristics • The Standardized work sheet works in conjunction with the appropriate reference material. Ensure that the Reference Numbers on the sheet accurately represent the appropriate reference documents. • Keep the major steps simple. Reference only Walk, Pickup parts, and installation
