  3. The 1st column represents all possibilities for the statement that can be either True or False. • The 2nd column indicates what logical values ~p takes on for the distinct possibilities for p.

  4. Conjunction • “and” • Symbol  • The first two columns lists all the possible combinations of the truth values of p and q. • The last column shows the truth values.

  5. Example • A) Harry Potter is a real person and has his own TV show. • B) U2 is a famous rock band and President Lincoln died in the late 1800’s. • C) Hawaii is bigger than California and you will pass this class.

  6. Disjunction • “or” • Symbol  • Mathematics and logic use “or” being inclusive. • Where everyday usage is exculsive. • “one or the other, but not both.”

  7. How many lines do you need? • The number of lines in a truth table needed is if the statement has “k” variables, then its truth table will have • 2k lines • Therefore if 3 variables then you will have 8 lines.
