CELDi Center for Engineering Logistics & Distribution Analysis of Military Processing Center Operations • Researchers: • Manuel D. Rossetti, Ph. D., P. E., Terry R. Collins, Ph. D., P. E., Carolyn S. Wells • Objectives: • Examine the strategic, tactical, and operational effectiveness of the design and operation of military processing centers (MPC) • Evaluate the center’s requirements for material handling equipment and systems • Improve the efficiency of supply support to military customers during peacetime and reliability during war-time • Activities • Documented current operating policies and procedures at initial MPC site and within supporting DDC operations • Examined the effectiveness of pre-sort strategies and other process re-engineering changes within the MPC support operations • Developed process based cost model for comparing re-engineering and assessed risks with implementing material handling changes including RFID • Recommended process improvement changes for the operation based on measurable performance criteria • Balanced Scorecard for MPC activities
Example DDNV Model Outputs 100% Check is the Greatest Processing Cost • Summary of DDNV Activity Cost Outputs • Daily, Weekly, Yearly Cost Summary • Monte-Carlo Risk Analysis • Total Cost Modeling • Current, $239,034.70 • Proposed, $104,190.50 • 78.5% Difference • Future, $88,862.91 • 91.5% Difference
