COMPUTER Computer is an electronic device which gets input data, process it & display output.
CPU • Central Processing Unit (CPU) is main component or “brain” of a computer, which performs all the processing of input data. Its function is to fetch, examine & then execute the instructions stored in the main memory of a computer. • CPU consist of following parts:- • Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) • Control Unit (CU) • Registers • Buses • Clock .
MONITOR • Visual Display Unit (VDU), commonly called Monitor is the main output device of a computer. Types of Monitors • Monochrome Monitors • Colour Monitors
KEYBOARD A Key board is similar to a typewriter. It is main input device of a computer. Types of Keys:- a) Alphanumeric Keys:- used to type all alphabets, no. & special symbols like $, %, @, ^, etc. b) Special Keys:- that is for <Shift>, <Ctrl>, <Alt>, <Home>, <Scroll Lock>< etc. c) Function Keys:- They are <F1>, <F2>, <F3>, etc. used to give commands depends upon software used.
MOUSE • Mouse is a basic input device. IT is a pointing device used to move cursor , draw sketches/ diagrams, seleccting a text/ object/ menu item, etc. on the monitor screen.
PRINTER • It is an output device, which is used to print information on paper.
TYPES OF PRINTER a) Impact Printer:- The Printers that print the characters by striking against the ribbon & onto the paper are called impact printer. These are of two types:- • Character Printer • Line Printer.
NON IMPACT PRINTER • The printers that print the characters without striking against the ribbon & onto the paper are called non impact printer. These are of three types :- • Laser printer • Inkjet printer • Thermal printer
SPEAKER • Speaker is one the essential output device of a multimedia computer used to produce sound & music. There are many models if stereo speakers with different size & volume capacities.
