The Tigris River and Euphrates River start in Anatolia (present-day Turkey) and flow southeast into the Persian Gulf
Silt- Fine soil carried by rivers and deposited on nearby lands. Very fertile • Fertile Crescent - Fertile region between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers where the first agricultural settlements were created • During the “Agricultural Revolution”
Sumer- Believed to be the world’s first civilization • Began around 4000 B.C. • Developed the first writing system, called cuneiform • Invented the wheel and the game of checkers
Babylon- Ancient culture that began around 2000 BC • Developed mathematics and astronomy
