Sumerian empire • With the large amount of food growth the Sumerians got new innovations. • They also created the Division of labor (sharing a large job). • They had monarchy ( governing system). • They also created the first writing cuneiform.
Akkadian Empire • The Akkadian Empire king is Sargon the great. • They started outside Sumer and took over. • They were the first empire with a standing army. • Sargon died after 56 years of king and the empire lasted another 200.
Babylonian Empire • Mesopotamia was ruled by Ur then Babylon. • They created a system of taxation. • They also had a centralized government. • Also they had the Code of Hammurabi ( the laws of babylon).
Kassites and Hittites • The Kassites wanted to take over but they were to weak. • The Hittites robbed the cities of riches. • Then the Hittites came with their chariots but did not stay to rule. • Now that Babylon was weaker the Kassites came in and took over.
Assyrian Empire • The people of Assur learned warfare from the Hittites. • They also learned to make iron weapons. • They also learned how to use chariots from the Hittites. • They were the first empire to use the lance, and battering ram.
Neo Babylonian Empire • They were the second Babylonian Empire. • Nebuchadnezzar was the best known king. • He was also known for his great building projects. • He built a palace, temples, and a ziggurat and then later the Tower of Babel.
Summary • In this lesson I learned about all the different empires of Mesopotamia. • Each one ruled the same place at different times. • They all had there own kings and built there own things. • One thing is that Ancient Mesopotamia was controlled a lot of people who wanted its rich lands.
