3. What are the main goals in your life right now? How often to you look at your goals and examine your progress?

4. Some of you already take a look at your goals and examine your progress, this is great because then you can see if there are areas where you can change or improve to keep working toward your goal. If you don’t it may be a good idea to take periodic checks to see if things need to be changed or refocused to continue to progress towards your goals.

5. Sometimes people say they have a goal but never look to see if they are taking the right steps to get there.

6. SMART Goals • S = Specific • M = Measurable • A = Action oriented • R = Realistic • T= Timed How can you make sure your goals are S.M.A.R.T.? 

7. What separates these two types of people? • Living the life they dreamed of • Personal satisfaction • Only dream of the life they desire • Dissatisfied with their circumstances

8. Examples of Goals (Are these SMART goals? Why or why not?) • In the next 3 years, I want to own my own business. • Over the next 2 months, I am going to run 2 miles every other day. • I am going to attend college. • I am going to take a vacation. • Over the next 6 months, I will save back $200 each month for a down payment on a car • I want to learn to play the piano • In 1 month I want to learn the Tango dance. I will practice 2 times a week with a dance instructor down at the studio.

9. HN 115 – Unit 3 Seminar Your Degree Plan This week you will begin to look at your Human Service Degree Plan and courses you will decide to take at Kaplan University. You will discuss the program outcomes and how they apply to the various classes and your study of human services You will also learn how to set realistic and meaningful educational and career goals in the field of human services to achieve your career objectives This is all covered in the reading for the week along with our discussion for the week.

10. HN 115 – Unit 3 Seminar This week when you open the Reading Icon you will find all the information you will need for the start of your Unit 4 Project. Please read the text in the Reading Page which will tell you what you need to do with each document you will be reading this week. Then click and open the five documents. Now together we will look at the requirements and electives for an Associate and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services.

34. HN 115 – Unit 3 Seminar Questions you need to ask yourself • Do you have transfer credits that may impact the design of your Degree Plan? Please know that Kaplan University must receive your official transcripts by the end of your first term.  If they are not received on time, they will not be evaluated and you will not receive any credit for courses taken at another institution.  Getting official transcripts sent in can take a while, so you will want to start this process as soon as possible.  You will need to contact your other school(s) to have them send the official documents directly to Kaplan University.  Online students should have their documentation sent to: Kaplan University, Prior Learning Assessment Center, 550 West Van Buren Street, 7th Floor, Chicago, IL 60607 • Do you have knowledge or experience in the human services field? If so, would you be interested in taking exams (Challenge or CLEP Exams) to help you obtain credit for knowledge that you might already have?
