Early Life as President (1789-1791) • (1789) Washington signs his first act of congress about administration of oaths. • (1790)Washington approves plans for US capital building. • (1790) Washington approves the Naturalization act • (1791) Washington approves of the first bank In the United States. • (1789-1791) Washington approves 5 acts, makes 4 addresses, and established the United States Cabinet. • (1791) Northwest Indian War Began. Jay’s and Greenville Treaties • Was the first two treaties Washington signed (1795). • The Treaty of Greenville ended the Northwest Indian War and gave America supreme control of Ohio and part of Indiana. • Jay’s Treaty made America stay neutral and Britain agreed abandon British forts in the west and allow American trade the West Indies. Final Years (1795-1797) • He made 3 public addresses, made 3 treaties, and resigned as president. • (1795)Pinckney’s treaty made a friendship between Spain and America. • (1796)Treaty of Tripoli made it so that America could safely trade in the Mediterranean. • Washington declines a third term and retires to his home in Vermont where he eventually dies at age 67.
