Our Mission The Qabeelat Nurayn Projects Committee is dedicated to extending the benefits of AlMaghrib seminars beyond the boundaries of two weekends and beyond the walls of the classroom. We apply that which we learn in the form of community service initiatives and other creative methods, racing to perform good wherever we can find it, inshaAllah.
Orphan Sponsorships: July 2007 Our Nurayn children are from Bangladesh and Mali. "I will be like this in Jannah with the person who takes care of an orphan". The Messenger of Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam raised his forefinger and middle finger by way of illustration. (Bukhari)
Soup Kitchen: Nov 2007 We volunteered to help with preparing and serving dinner at the “Dinner Program for Homeless Women” in Washington DC. "Have you seen him who denies the Recompense? That is he who repulses the orphan. And urges not the feeding of the poor". (107:1-3)
Food and Friends: Feb 2008 Volunteers spent their day driving through parts of DC and Virginia delivering food to indigent and sick people. “Feed the hungry.” (Bukhari)
Code 4: March 2008 The objective of Code 4 is to provide the community with updatessend out announcements about special opportunities to fast, visit the sick, and feed the poor in addition to janazah alerts. "These things cannot all meet in a single person but that they will enter Paradise." (Muslim)
Pencil Project: March 2008 We collected over 3,000 pencils and school supplies which were shipped and delivered to an Islamic girl’s school in Afghanistan. "Protect yourself from Hell-fire even by giving a piece of date as charity.'' (Bukhari and Muslim)
Khalid Ali Family Fund: April 2008 After a tragic and sudden house fire in Ottawa, a family of eight lost their youngest child, Khalid, age two, as well as their home and their belongings in the blaze. Students of Nurayn came together and organized a website to collect online donations for our family in Canada. After making a goal of $5,000, Allah blessed us to raise more than $15,000. The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of one body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body aches." (Muslim)
Inmate Book Drive: May 2008 In cooperation with the Islamic Information Center at Dar us Salaam, we collected Islamic books for Muslim inmates from across the country requesting materials such as Qur’ans, seerah and hadeeth books. “Allah supports His slave as long as the slave is supportive of his brother." (Muslim)
Shelter our Sisters: July 2008 We organized a donation and items drive for Muslimat Al Nisaa (homeless women’s shelter in Baltimore) and raised more than $3000 and two trunk loads worth of non-perishable food items and toiletries in one weekend. He who finds relief for a hard-pressed person, Allah will make things easy for him on the Day of Resurrection. (Muslim)
Br AbdiRazak Fundraiser: March 2009 Br AbdiRazak, the sole provider for his wife and three kids was involved in a tragic car accident that left him in a coma for two weeks. Alhamdulillah we were able to raise over $4000 in two days for the family. "The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of one body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body aches, because of sleeplessness and fever." [Muslim]
