Basic Requirements for the internship: • Must expose the foreign student to American techniques, methodologies, and technology and expands upon the student intern's existing knowledge and skills. • Must fulfill the student's educational objectives for his or her current degree program. • Reinforces the student’s ongoing academic course of study. • Must be full-time (minimum 32 hours a week). • The student intern is primarily in the United States to engage in a student internship program rather than to engage in employment or provide services to an employer. • The internship tasks may consist of no more than 20% clerical work. Verify that the foreign student’s English is proficient enough to function on a day-to-day basis. • Accept the foreign student into its internship program. • Complete and sign all requisite documents. • Secure placement of student intern. • Provide access to appropriate labs, buildings, and library privileges. • Monitor the intern’s progress and complete the evaluation forms. Minimum funding requirements for all J Exchange Visitors (EV): • $1600/month for J-1 exchange visitor • $550/month for Spouse • $300/month for each child funding/financial support International Faculty & Scholar Services, Dean of Faculties, Texas A&M University
