Supporting Your MOC Program Realities of Life-long Learning in Medical Practice • You arecontinuously improving your patient care based on self-evaluation and lifelong learning • It is not easy to choose among the many opportunities available to ensure you spend your CPD time wisely. • A plan might help. Planning your Continuing Professional Development activities Step 1 Assess yourself and your practice to identify gaps or problems that you want to address Step 2 Be aware of learning opportunities Step 3 Make choices of learning activities that will keep you up-to-date and support the changes you want to make Step 4 Keep track of what you are doing including the impact of each activity
Supporting Your MOC Program The RCPSC Maintenance of Certification(MOC) program suggests a wide range of continuing professional development(CPD) activities to help you meet the MOC requirements. The Office of CME offers the following guidance to help you make the best choices for you. Choices Assessment: These activities provide data to individuals or groups of physicians. The information can be related to your knowledge or performance across a broad range of professional practice domains. This feedback enables you to identify your needs and areas for development relevant to your professional practice Programs designed by others: These learning activities are the most predominant type of CME/CPD. They are developed by planning committees based on their understanding of what you need to know or be able to do. They may be live or not and may or may not be accredited. Self developed activities: You can choose learning activities that you initiate to address a question, problem or increase awareness of new evidence, perspectives or findings that will be relevant to your professional practice
Assessment Activities These activities provide data to individuals or groups of physicians. The information can be related to your knowledge or performance across a broad range of professional practice domains. (Kaufman 2003) The RCPSC has created more options for you to obtain credits through self developed activities

Keeping Track of Your CPD Activities Fellows of the RCPSC • Create a record keeping system that is integrated into your daily calendar. If you have admin support, ask for help to set it up and use it. 2. Go to RCPSC.org/mainport to set up your personal record keeping CPD file • easy to use, personal and private • you can document incomplete activities and save your records • update regularly and end of year will be painless – it tracks your credits automatically
