Why I chose this • I chose Sun bears because I think that they look different from any other bear.
Introduction • Sun Bears are becoming more and more threatened to be extinct every year. Their two main threats are habitat loss and commercial hunting. They are mainly hunted for their meat, their fur, and for use in medicines. Their population has decreased around 30% in the past 30 years.
Facts • Sun bears are sometimes overwhelmed with Tigers or large Pythons. • Sun bears are usually 47-60 inches long making it the smallest member in the bear family. • Males are 10-45% larger than female bears. • Their life span is up to 25 years. • They can weigh up to 60-150 lbs. • Their name comes from a mark across their chest because it looks a rising or setting sunset. • Their nickname is Honey bear.
Facts • Because of the temperature around Sun bears, Sun bear’s don’t hibernate in the winter. • Their tongue is 8-10 inches in length. • Sun bears have loose skin so if they are bitten they can escape faster from their predator.

Young Sun Bears • A female Sun bear can have 1-2 cubs per year.After 1-3 months the cub can play and run. Most of the Sun bears are born blind and hairless. Sun bears watch their cub(s) for around 2 years until they can handle being alone.
