  1. Gospel Meeting w/ the Mt. Baker church of Christ in Bellingham, WA The Courageof David

  2. Introduction • The courage of David was manifest throughout his life: • During his youth, • During his flight, • During his reign, & • At the end of his days.

  3. During His Youth • While still a youth, David evidenced courage in defending his father’s flock, and afterwards, in opposing the blasphemous taunts of Goliath (1 Sam. 17:20-52).

  4. During His Flight • During his years as a fugitive, David demonstrated courage by not lifting up his hand prematurely against King Saul, the Lord’s anointed, but patiently waited upon God (1 Sam. 26:1-25).

  5. Early in His Reign • Near the beginning of his reign, David expressed courage in his prayerful response to the revelation of God’s plan, purpose and promises (2 Sam. 7:18-29, esp. vs. 27).

  6. In the Psalms • In the midst of his reign, David expressed courage in the 27th Psalm, a song of fearless trust in God (cf. vs. 14), and in the 31st Psalm, a song of complaint and of praise (cf. vs. 24).

  7. Late in His Reign • Near the end of his reign, David expressed courage in his multiple charges to Solomon regarding the building of the temple (1 Chron. 22:6-13, esp. vs. 13; 28:9-21, exp. vs. 10).

  8. Conclusion • David, a man after God’s own heart, courageously served his own generation (Acts 13:32-41, esp. vs. 36). • What about us? Will we defend God’s honor? Will we wait upon the Lord? Will we obey God’s word? Will we admit wrong when we fail? Will we transmit such commitment to the next generation?
