  3. Wat eet het dier? • De prooi (kleine en middelgrote antilopen • hazen, jonge wrattenzwijnen en struisvogels, enz.)

  4. Hoe ziet het dier eruit ? • De kortharige pels heeft kleine, donkere vlekken op een geelbruine achtergrond. • Een enkele maal kunnen die vlekken tot strepen samenvloeien • De lengte bedraagt 110–140 cm • met een staart van 65–80 cm; schouderhoogte 75–85 cm.

  5. Hoe plant het dier zich voort? de voortplanting in dierentuinen is geen eenvoudige zaak ; slechts enkele instellingen boekten continue successen.

  6. Waar leeft het dier? • Deze soort is wijd verspreid over de vlakten van Afrika en in zuidelijk Azië tot in India; is echter zeer bedreigd in zijn voortbestaan: in Azië vrijwel uitgeroeid.
