Properties and Uses of MERCURY • Properties- Mercury is a silvery white metal • The valence is usually 1 or 2 • The gravity is 13.546 (20*C) • The melting point is -38.842*C • The boiling point is 356.58*C • Mercury is used to make thermometers and barometers • Mercury can also be used in advertising signs • It is also used for mercury switches • In some cases it is used to make batteries • It is also important in industry, like for making chlorine production • It is used to make fluorescent lamps

  3. How and where Mercury came from • Mercury was named after the planet Mercury the symbol Hg came from the Latin word hydargyrgum which means a silver metal • You can find Mercury in the Earth’s crust, and in the ocean • Also it is sometimes in the human’s body
