  1. WHAT IS THE SENIOR ECOSYSTEM AND HOW DO I NAVIGATE IT? “Love, care, and treasure the elderly people in the society.” – Lailah Akita An ecosystem is a community of living beings interacting with their physical environment. The senior ecosystem refers to the expansive and complex networks of family members, businesses, healthcare professionals, and other service providers dedicated to helping the elderly interact safely and contentedly with their physical environments. More important, the senior ecosystem is dynamic, expanding and changing constantly to meet the demands of a rapidly increasing elderly population. And as you might expect, the more the bigger the networks, the more difficult it can be finding right resources for your specific needs. If you’re currently searching for support services for an ailing parent, grandparent, other relative, or even a dear friend, you know just how confusing and frustrating it is to navigate the senior ecosystem. Baker DMM’s founder and President, Chris Baker, CPA, does, too. His personal journey through this maze as he cared for his mother during end-stage cancer makes him an excellent starting point for you. And while you’re scheduling a visit with Chris, you can safely enter this web of eldercare service providers by reaching out to: 1.Your local senior center, often city or county agencies. 2.Your existing professional network including your physician, CPA, insurance broker, financial planner, or attorney. Relatedly, your personal network may help identify an

  2. elder care attorney or home health provider who in turn can connect you to other senior care resources. 3.National non-profit organizations such as the National Aging-in-Place Council (NAIPC) for a list of pre-qualified service providers in your area. Use the above resources to ask questions which will help you understand general needs of seniors as they age and rely on their expertise for advice on situations specific to your family’s situation. Chris Baker, CPA is a member of the National Aging-in-Place Council, the American Institute of CPAs, and the Georgia Society of CPAs and Baker DMM’s lead daily money manager. These credentials speak to Chris’s professional competency; his commitment to strong senior financial health speaks to his character. And tells you why Baker DMM is your best next step as you approach, or continue navigating, the senior ecosystem.
