When to call 9-1-1 • If they are not breathing • Breathing is too fast, slow, painful, noisy • What do you do…. • If conscious, keep them calm • If unconscious - CPR
Choking • Anyone can choke, child or adult • What to look for…. • Coughing • Clutching throat • Inability to talk, cry, breathe, or cough • Panic
What to do…. • If they are coughing: • Air is getting in and out • Encourage them to keep coughing • If they are not coughing: • Combination of 5 back blows and 5 Abdominal thrusts
What happens if they become unconscious… • Get them to the ground • Open mouth and look for object • If you cant get object out, open airway and give 2 rescue breaths • Do chest compressions • Look for object, repeat
