DCCO experiment belongs to a wide research program aiming to investigate mass transport processes in multicomponents mixtures representatives of crude oil: DSC: Diffusion and Soret Coefficients Measurement for Oil Recovery. Diffusion Coefficients in Crude Oil
DSC : ESA Map Project MAP Program: With the forthcoming International Space Station, there is strong motivation to expand on microgravity related activities notably by involving European industry and by encouraging the move from fundamental research towards applied projects. ESA has therefore initiated a Microgravity Applications Promotion Program that includes Physical Sciences and Biotechnology. The DSC Project is part of that program. Diffusion Coefficients in Crude Oil
DSC MAP Programme • Measurements of isothermal diffusion and thermal diffusion coefficients (or Soret effect) in various kind of mixtures, • Implementation of the results in thermodynamics numerical models of oil reservoirs, • Creation of a database of standard data’s that will be used to validate ground-based measurements methods, • Measurement of the influence of g-jitters on diffusion and thermodiffusion coefficients Diffusion Coefficients in Crude Oil

Diffusion Coefficients in Crude Oil - DCCO • First flight in NASA Space Shuttle in June 1999. • Measurements of diffusion coefficients in binary and ternary liquids (9 samples): DCCO will measure diffusion coefficients in 9 different samples containing: • Dodecane • Isobutylbenzene • Tetrahydronaphtalène Diffusion Coefficients in Crude Oil
Experiment principle The introduction of ternary mixture A into a column of ternary mixture B is monitored using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The interferometer measures very small variations of refractive indexes at two different wavelengths. Diffusion Coefficients in Crude Oil
