The telephone was invented on March 10, 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell. Alexander Graham Bell made the first phone call to his assistant Thomas Watson. Alexander assistant was in the next room when he tested his experiment. In 1919 the Bell System companies installed a rotary dial (the finger wheel of the dial). This phone was out when mostly everyone had phones. 1947 The North America number plan began. Telephone customers were growing rapidly so AT&T and the bell companies develop a system that assigned telephone numbers to customers. 1963 the telephone had 10 buttons to replace rotary device.
