Overview of TL (L4 to PSB) L4 to PSB Power Converters
LT and LTB Lines • 27 circuits • Power converters of BHZ20, 30 and 40 to be replaced • Converters will be same as L4T H and V main bends • Pulse form modified to permit field stabilisation • Slower rise time, longer flat-top • Magnetic field measurements during 2012 shutdown • To be decided if installation in 355 or 363 L4 to PSB Power Converters
LBE and LBS Lines • 7 circuits • Magnets LBE.QFW10 and LBE.QDW20 will be upgraded • Existing circuits operate at ~10A • Replace power converters to operate at >95A • Requirements for LBS.BVT10 are currently undefined • Power converter should be replaced L4 to PSB Power Converters
BI Line • 43 circuits • BI.BVT needs to be changed • Magnet will be changed • No details available yet • BI[1,2,3,4].DHZ50 • BI[1,2,3,4].DVT50 • BI[1,2,3,4].DHZ70 • BI[1,2,3,4].DVT70 • No details available yet • Existing power converters are OK up to 20A peak • Thus 17 Circuits are undefined L4 to PSB Power Converters
BI line Modifications • The BI.SMH is not required for H- operation • BI.SMH and BI[1,2,4].SMV[old] systems will be removed • BI[1,2,4].SMV[new] systems will be installed in their place • The BI[1,2,3,4].BS chicane powering is a new requirement • 12kA nominal current with controlled 5ms ramp-down • Design not yet started • Between 10 and 15 new racks are required • Transformers to be integrated into the tunnel • The chicane induces perturbations in the PSB beam dynamics • Corrected by adding Qstrip trims to 2 sectors of each PSB ring • 10 new racks are required L4 to PSB Power Converters
Space in 361 The following is proposed in 361-1-012 Install BI[1,2,3,4].BS Chicane (~15 racks) Remove SMH and SMV[1,2,4] Install new SMV[1,2,4] Remove DIS PB[1,2,3] (12 racks) Install PSB Qstrip Trims (10 racks) L4 to PSB Power Converters
Conclusion • 130 power converter circuits between LINAC4 and PSB • More than 50% will be installed or modified for LINAC4 operation • Powering solutions for 18 Circuits are undefined • Waiting for magnet parameters • As they are undefined, no resource has yet been foreseen • Proposal for racks in 361-1-012 needs to be confirmed • Check access, cabling, power, etc • Integration studies required for BI[1,2,3,4].BS transformers • Use building 355 or 363 for the BHZ 20, 30 and 40 converters?
