Brief Definition of ATTU • ATTU- US Air Force Special Forces Unit. • Mobile surgical units first used in 1914-18 War in France. • US Forces have used mobile Role 2 capability for over 20 years. • Afghanistan Started first ATTU on 28 April 2013
Goals • Develop a surgical capability for ANA Corps • Increasing providing surgical care in the battlefield to decrease the casualty levels in the battlefield. • Assuring the soldiers that they will be cured in spite of the stressful conditions and limited capabilities in the battlefield • Stabilizing the patients to be evacuated to the next stage of their treatment
Elements needed to develop and maintain ATTU • Planning: • Advanced Preparations for all aspects • Running the drills and practicing the key elements • Staff ( 12 – 15) • Medical and nonmedical: • Having and enforcing a rotation plan for the staff • Equipment ( permanent and disposable)
Elements needed to develop and maintain ATTU Cont • Medevac: • (ground and Air) • Logistical Support: • Medical supplies • Nonmedical supplies • Vital supplies • Command and control: • Leadership • Security considerations • effective communications with all Levels
The Vital Nature of developing and maintaining ATTU for the future success of ANA • Significantly Increasing the survival chances of the solders as a result of providing care in the first instances of the occurrence of the cases • Establishing ATTU is quicker • Filling the gap for inadequate transportation capabilities • Applicable in war and peace times ( natural disasters)
