1. Follow-up report - about the 23rd meeting The discussions in Bangkok for the 23rd APAN member meeting: • For the 23rd APAN meeting, the group was asked to deliberate on the candidacy of Manila and Hawaii but due to time constraints, no decision was reached and, had the second meeting to do more detailed discussions. • Then, its decision will be made within a month after email discussion with Denis/ASTI and Heather (David)/I2 from the Hawaii group. After that: • Both Denis and David talked by E-mails. They did very amicable discussion. • On May 13, we decided Manila as a host of the 23rd APAN member meeting in deference to a result of discussion by them. Also we paid attention to Hawaii being holding will for the 25th APAN member meeting. • On May 16, Event Committee Chair reported its result to APAN Chair.
2. Hosting future APAN member meetingsDecision has been made on the host of the following APAN meeting as follows: • 23rd meeting (January 22-26, 2007) Manila/PH (confirmed) • 24th meeting (August 19-24, 2007) Xi'an/CN • 25th meeting (January 20-25, 2008) Hawaii/US
1. Hosting future APAN member meetings (cont’d) • The organizers of Xi'an meeting is still waiting for the formal approval from the government regarding the event and this should be received in a month's time. The organizers are confident that they will get the approval since they submitted a good proposal to the government.
3. Cost of hosting and participating in APAN meetings • On the cost of hosting and participating in APAN meeting, the participants of the meeting agreed that efforts have to be made to minimize the cost in order to lessen the financial burden on the part of organizers as well as participants. • To attract young scientist, the fellowship program needs to be strengthened to support their participation. • One suggestion forwarded is to ask primary members to provide additional funds that will go directly to the fellowship program.
