THE EARTH • 75% of the Earth is water. • Life is possible on the Earth because it’ s not too hot or too cold. • One more reason is the air which we can’ t live without.
THE MOON • The Moon is our closest neighbour. • It gives light at night but it’ s not a star. • Is it a planet then? • No, it isn’ t. • It’ s the Earth’ s satellite.
MERCURY • Mercury is a chemical element with the symbol Hg and atomic number 80. • A heavy, silvery d-block element, Mercury is the only metallic element that is liquid at standard conditions for temperature and pressure; the only other element that is liquid under these conditions is bromine, though metals such as caesium,gallium, and rubidium melt just above room temperature.
VENUS • Venus is the second planet from the Sun, orbiting it every 224.7 Earth days. • It has no natural satellite. It is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty.

Mars is rocky and cold, with polar ice caps of frozen water and carbon dioxide. • It has the largest volcano in the Solar System, and some very large impact craters. Mars is named after the mythological Roman god of war because it is a red planet, the colour of blood.
JUPITER • Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. • It is colourful. • In astrology it is considered to be the planet of fortune.
SATURN • Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest planet in the Solar System, after Jupiter. • Named after the Roman god of agriculture, its astronomical symbol represents the god's sickle.
URANUS • Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun. It has the third-largest planetary contrast, the interior of Uranus is mainly composed of ices and rocks.
NEPTUNE • Neptune is the eighth and farthest planet from the Sun in the Solar System. It is the fourth-largest planet by diameter and the third-largest by mass. Named after the Roman god of the sea, its astronomical symbol, a stylised version of the god Neptune's trident.
