What Baptist Believe about Salvation THE CALL TO SALVATION 1. The REASON we need to be saved. Man possess a sinful nature. Romans 5:12; 3:10, 23 Known as the doctrine of “Original sin.” Man sins because he is a sinner by birth. Our sinful nature is the ROOTof our problem. Our sinful acts are the FRUITof our problem. Man is born spiritually dead. Eph 2:1-3, 12 Our sin nature keeps us from pleasing God. Rom 8:8; Is 59:2

There is a strong need today to come to a fresh understanding of what sin is and how it effects our lives and spiritual health. What is sin? A. It is a standing (inherited nature, state, position). The Root, (cause, heart of). B. It is an action (activity, choice, decision). The Fruit (proof).

Rebellion – 1 Sam 15:23 Lawlessness – 1 Tim 1:9 Transgression of the Law - 1 John 3:4 Man’s assertion that God will not rule over me or tell me what to do. Debt – Matt 18 Unbelief – Heb 11:6 Trespass – Ezk 20:27
What Baptist Believe about Salvation THE CALL TO SALVATION 1. The REASON we need to be saved. Why is sin so bad? It destroyed our access to God. It destroyed out fellowship with God. It destroyed our standing before God. It robbed us of the blessing of God. It robbed us of eternal life with God in the garden (paradise). It enslaved us. Required the death of God’s only son. It brought about all sorrow, death, pain and suffering, separation, heartaches and trouble.

Present tense (Being Saved from power of sin) God is my Great Shepherd (Heb 13:20-21) Corresponds to my soul. Sanctified. Prospective tense (Shall be saved from presence of sin) God is my Chief Shepherd (1 Pet 5:4) Corresponds to my body. Glorified.
