  3. Objectives • Identify the components of the medical-surgical certification exam. • Differentiate between the AMSN and ANCC certification exams. • Understand eligibility and the application process for certification. • Identify at least three reasons to be certified.

  4. What’s the test about? • Purpose • To test your understanding of what you have already learned as a medical-surgical nurse. • Goal • To use a standardized testing process to create an objective assessment of a test taker's knowledge and skills.

Will the hospital pay for it? • Yes, there is a max. allowance of $400 • Cost of exam at member rate • Cost of review course not offered at hospital • Review materials, such as books and CDs • Eligibility Requirements • RN licensed to practice in Texas • Employed Full Time (64 hrs per pay period minimum) or TDA • Appraisal rating of “Good Solid Performer” or above • Must sit for the exam within 3 months of applying or the next date offered
