Reasons for Australian Involvement • Pressure from the UN. • To stop the conflict and Genocide. • To help sustain future development.
Roles performed by Australia • Deployed 302 soldiers to Rwanda. • Provided medical aid to UN force and Rwandan people. • Due to UN and rules of engagement the Australian soldiers were not allowed to open fire.

Evaluation • The operations in Rwanda were a failure. • UN did not want countries to participate in Rwanda, it was considered a lost cause. • Troops were not permitted to take action against those who were committing genocide. • UN had prior knowledge that the genocide would happen but did nothing about it.
