Checklist of indicators of a learning disability or AD/HD or both I have trouble getting through tests within the time limits. I take much longer to write a paper or complete homework assignments than I think I should. I can’t meet deadlines for papers or class assignments—time management is an issue. I feel stressed most of the time. I have trouble paying attention to course lectures; my mind wanders in class. I have difficulty staying focused in all kinds of situations, not just in class, but in social situations as well. I study all the time, but I still make disappointing grades. I struggle finding a balance between my academic and social life. I am now or have been on academic probation. I think I am a very slow reader; it takes me a long time to get through work that involves reading. I feel like I am very disorganized in my daily life. I sometimes get so absorbed in something I am doing, I forget to do things I’m supposed to, like go to class, meet a friend or teacher, or even eat a meal. I have a lot of difficulty learning certain kinds of subjects, like math or foreign languages. It seems like I have always had to work harder to learn things than most people. In high school my teachers gave me more time to do tests or homework and this helped me. I had to get extra help from family or tutors to get through school work before I came to college.
